2nd person found hanging in Chicago-area jail
A man has been found hanging in a Chicago-area jail — the second person in four days to die that way at the Calumet Area lockup.
Police told the Chicago Tribune a jailer found Melvin Woods of Chicago hanging by his underwear at 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Police say Woods was being held on aggravated assault charges related to an argument with his girlfriend. He was arrested just before midnight.
Police say Woods’ 54-year-old girlfriend wasn’t injured during the argument.
Woods’ death was the second hanging in four days at the jail. A man charged with killing a grocery store security guard hung himself in his cell Thursday.
