Wheeling DUI suspect tested three times legal limit
A 48-year-old Prospect Heights man, who was arrested on charges of drunken driving for the fourth time in 14 years Friday, had a blood alcohol content three times the legal limit, prosecutors said.
Oxalon Ramirez was arrested by Wheeling police at 3:15 p.m. Friday after he pulled out of an unidentified gas station and began driving erratically, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Katherine Levine said during Ramirez’s bond hearing Saturday.
Police were notified by a customer at the gas station who reported that Ramirez was “stumbling and swaying while pumping gas,” Levine said.
Once at the police station, a breath test was administered, which indicated Ramirez had a blood alcohol content of .241 percent. A person is considered legally drunk with a blood-alcohol content above .08 percent.
In addition to drunken driving charges, Ramirez was also cited for driving with a revoked license and unlawful transportation on an open alcohol container. Ramirez was convicted of drunken driving in 1997, 2005 and 2008, Levine said.
His bail was set at $30,000 and his next court date is scheduled for Dec. 6.
