Lowell races for state loan for sewage plant

LOWELL, Ind. — The council of the Lake County town of Lowell is racing to win a state loan needed to finance a $7 million expansion of its sewage treatment plant.

The Times of Munster reports (http://bit.ly/vzO4sY ) the loan could save Lowell $500,000. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is mandating the town 20 miles south of Garyt complete the expansion to curb overflows into Cedar Creek.

The town council has until Dec. 1 to submit its application to the state. The council set a Nov. 29 meeting to award contracts for the project.
