Tucci, York overcome Conant

York's Tawny Tucci scored the first 6 points of the game, the Dukes jumped out to an early 9-0 lead and made it stand in a 56-48 win over Conant at the first York Turkey Tournament in Elmhurst.

Tucci finished with 12 points before fouling out, one of three Dukes to do so in a free-throw filled contest.

"We came out strong," Tucci said, "but maybe we came out a little too aggressive and got in foul trouble. It's the first game."

AnnaBell Landsdowne scored 18 points to pace York, which won despite making just 11 of its 27 free-throw attempts. Conant's 6-foot senior Natalie Kutrumanes powered in a game-high 27 points with 9 rebounds and also made 13 of 16 free throws. Conant as a team was 22 of 30, which helped keep things close after York jumped ahead 20-8 after a quarter.

"We were all excited at the start of the game, playing in our own gym in this tournament," Tucci said. "Good atmosphere."
