Village, park district partner on holiday recycling

LOMBARD, Illinois— The Village of Lombard and the Lombard Park District encourage residents and business to recycle their holiday lights and extension cords.

Collection bins will be in place from Nov. 23 through Jan. 15 at the Department of Public Works at 1051 S. Hammerschmidt Avenue and at the Park District's Sunset Knoll building at 820 S. Finely Road, and at the Lilacia Park Coach House at 227 W. Parkside Ave.

Residents and businesses may drop off at any time, including after work hours and on weekends.

Elgin Recycling will pay the Village and Park District for the copper content and the proceeds will be used to offset the Village's costs for its Recycling Extravaganza and the Park District's cost to place additional recycling bins in the parks.

Last year 10,000 pounds were collected in the western suburbs. The collection starts on Thanksgiving and will continue through Jan. 15.
