Ind. highway dept. prepares for winter weather

GREENFIELD, Ind. — The Indiana Department of Transportation says highway department garages have been stocked with salt, snowplows have been serviced, and drivers are ready for the first big snow of winter.

INDOT says drivers will be able to track winter road conditions across Indiana at a state website, www.TrafficWise.in.gov. The website will be updated during snow and ice events to let drivers know if road conditions are good, fair or difficult. The information will also be available by calling 800-261- 7623.

INDOT urges motorists to practice safe winter driving habits, including driving slowly, allowing greater distances behind vehicles in front of them, and braking early.
