Scouting Dundee-Crown Chargers

Dundee-Crown Chargers

Coach: Michelle Russell (4th year, 13-68)

Conference: Fox Valley (Valley)

2010-11 record: 9-18 (3-7 FVC Valley)

Top returning players: Ali Sanders (Sr. 5-7 G), Diamond Williams (Sr. 5-10 C), Carlin Faulkner (Sr. 5-5 G)

Top newcomers: Jill Weichmann (5-8 Jr. F).

Outlook: The Chargers took a step forward with 9 wins last season and now Russell, the all-time leading scorer in Dundee-Crown history, is hoping for even better things. With Sanders (12 ppg, 4.8 rpg), an all-area choice last season, Williams (8 ppg, 8 rpg) and Faulkner (8 ppg, 31 3-pointers) back for their senior years, Russell has good reason to be optimistic. "They're our leading scorers and rebounders so it's nice to have that back to build around," Russell said. "I'm hoping we move forward and we should. Our goal is to be .500 or above and that's a reasonable goal." In addition to the three returning starters, Russell is looking for big things from Weichmann. "Jill is a tall and lanky girl and we're looking for her to step in and fill a role," Russell said. Russell knows one of the great downfalls of last year's team was taking care of the basketball. "We need to cut down on our turnovers and increase our free throw and layup percentage," she said. "We need to get better at all those things."
