Scouting Timothy Christian boys basketball

Timothy Christian

Coach: Jack LeGrand.

Last year: 17-10, 7-5, tied for second in the Metro Suburban Conference; lost 49-40 to Providence-St. Mel in the Class 2A Immaculate Conception regional final.

Top players: Luke Davidson, jr. G; Dan Leach, jr., G; Andrew Miller, sr., G; Matt Morrison, sr., F; Chris Ridolphi, sr., F; Matt Robinson, sr., G; Connor VanderBrug, so., F; Tyler VanderBrug, sr., F.

Scouting report: Aiming for its ninth straight season above .500, the smallest school in the Metro Suburban will use good shooting and LeGrand’s array of shifting defenses to counter an overall lack of height. Leach made 43 threes last season on the way to a 12-point average, and he can also attack the basket and hit the pull-up jumper. Ridolphi and Morrison, a three-year starter, also are back and to provide leadership lost by the graduations of Mike Pizzello and Mark Penczak. Ridolphi may also inherit Pizzello’s defensive stopper role. Only gym rat Morrison and the 6-4 Tyler VanderBrug stand above 6-3. “I am concerned about depth, and how we handle big, physical teams,” LeGrand said. Like his predecessor, Naperville North’s Jeff Powers, LeGrand’s teams improve as the season goes on.
