Scouting Metea Valley boys basketball
Metea Valley
Coach: Bob Vozza.
Last year: 15-13, 5-7, tied for fifth in the Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division; lost 51-48 in overtime to Bolingbrook in the Class 4A Bolingbrook regional quarterfinals.
Top players: Milan Bojanic, sr., F; LaShawn Cargo, sr., G; Sean Davis, sr., F; Shiv Desai, jr., C; TréSean Mackey, sr., G; Kenny Obendorf, sr., G-F; Raysean Parker, sr., F; Vin Patel, jr., G-F; Ryan Solomon, sr., G.
Scouting report: Experience abounds, for this is the Mustangs' first senior class. All-Area player Obendorf returns a team-high 14.9 points, including 34 against East Aurora, one of several landmark wins in Metea's first varsity season. Several other players, like Bojanic, Cargo, Parker and point guard Solomon, offer double-figure potential on a group that will welcome newcomers like Melvin Meeks, Trayvond Taylor and 6-6 Hayden Barnard up from last year's 15-8 sophomore team. This group shares the ball well, has good chemistry and a high basketball IQ. A protege of Neuqua Valley's Todd Sutton, Vozza stresses fundamentals and passing-lane defense that fuels transition offense. "They have an awful lot of success in the open floor, so we're going to try to continue that," Vozza said.
