Harvest Christian Academy Lions

Top players: Ulises Fragroso (G), Kyle Fritz (PG), Luis Pereda (F), Dan Turpin (6-5, C), John Vislisel (6-6, F), Stuart Wolff (6-2, F)

Scouting report: The first season of IHSA boys basketball begins for this Elgin private school on Monday, when the Lions face Byron at the Oregon Thanksgiving Tournament. Johns Vislisel and Dan Turpin played on the varsity as freshmen last season. They have the height to change shots and could make Harvest Christian Academy a dangerous postseason club. Ulises Fragroso is a shooter and Kyle Fritz can play the point. Postseason success is precedented at the area's latest addition to the IHSA. The school's girls volleyball team reached the Elite Eight in Class 1A in its first try this fall. The "With the new additions to our team and the increased commitment to growth in our returning players, we anticipate having a solid season and are very much looking forward to our boys basketball team participating in their first IHSA state series," HCA athletic director David Lockwood said. "We will be more athletic than we have ever been, and the boys have been working very hard to try and model the success that we had this fall with our girls volleyball team. I'm sure that we will have some growing pains, but with the talent that we have on this team, I expect a pretty rapid learning curve."
