KIndergarten Goes Retro

Denise Glennon's Kindergarten Class at Manor Hill School celebrated their 50th Day of School on November 8 by going “50's.” To establish the theme, they talked about what life was like back then and compared it to now. The children also sorted pictures of items from the 50's and from the present to get a visual idea of how things have changed.

In Language Arts, her students wrote about the 50's and talked about how differently people dressed. In Math, the students used tally marks to count to 50, counted to 50 by 1's 5's and 10's, and looked at random numbers from 1-100 and tried to figure out if they were greater or less than 50.

The students also tried out some fun activities of the 50's. Attempting to use a hula-hoop and competing in a bubble gum blowing contest made everyone smile.

“Making learning fun and relating to real life helps children retain better. I think it can be easily said that this happened on the 50th day of Kindergarten,” said Glennon. “ A good time was definitely had by all!”
