Honquest food drive ends Nov. 20
It’s not too late to donate nonperishables to the Thanksgiving food drive at Honquest Furniture for Living, 1455 S. Barrington Road, Barrington. The holiday food drive continues through Sunday, Nov. 20, where collection bins are at the front of the store.
Store hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, until 8 p.m. Thursday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Consider donating wholesome, healthy and nutritious food items that have been recently purchased. A good rule of thumb to follow: What would you give your best friend or family member if he or she was in need? Healthy options rather than snack foods or desserts are encouraged.
Suggestions include canned meats, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, canned and boxed meals (soup, chili, stew, macaroni and cheese), canned or dried beans (black, pinto, kidney, lentils), pasta and rice and cereal (low sugar, high fiber).
Food pantry officials also say there is a need for coffee, tea and hot cocoa mix to provide warmth, comfort and hospitality to those visiting the food pantry or shelter.
To ensure safety, these items cannot be used: rusty or unlabeled cans, perishable items, homemade items, noncommercial canned or packaged items, alcoholic beverages and mixes, open items.
