Machinists strike Manitowoc Co. crane division Machinists strike Manitowoc Co. crane division
MANITOWOC, Wis. — Machinists are walking the picket line at the Manitowoc Co.
Nearly 200 members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers walked off the job this week at the company’s crane division after rejecting a four-year contract offer. The crane division employs about 800 people. Terms of the offer were not disclosed, but union members say the company wants an “open shop,” where machinists would not necessarily be represented by the union.
WLUK-TV reports the Manitowoc Co. is one of the largest employers in the area. About 1,400 of nearly 13,000 employees worldwide work in Wisconsin. The company specializes in crane and food service equipment.
