Libertyville offers a free recycling program
A special public event to promote recycling and celebrate America Recycles Day will be held Saturday, Nov. 19, in Libertyville. The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County and Lake County are sponsoring the program dedicated to recycling from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lake County Division of Transportation facility, just west of Milwaukee Avenue on Winchester Road.
The free event will offer an opportunity for people to recycle household electronics, including computers, printers, televisions, alkaline and rechargeable batteries and small appliances.
They will also accept other often #147;hard-to-get-rid-of#148; items, including propane tanks, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, C02 detectors and athletic shoes that can#146;t be recycled at home.
Participants will learn what can and can#146;t be recycled in curbside bins and more about the how#146;s, what#146;s and why#146;s of recycling.
Copies of the Curbside Recycling Guidelines, along with a special eco-clip (made from recycled materials) will be handed out to every household that attends, while supplies last.
America Recycles Day, Nov. 15, is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling in the United States. It#146;s an opportunity to learn more about the importance of recycling and to make a difference in our own homes and communities.
It#146;s also an opportunity to get neighbors, friends and the community excited about what can be accomplished when they work together and to continue these endeavors 365 days a year.
Now is the time to join the effort as Lake County has a goal to increase recycling to 60 percent by 2020, and the Illinois landfill ban on electronics begins Jan. 1.
The only fees that apply are for latex paint recycling, although Earth Paints Collection Systems is offering a special America Recycles Day discount and fees are minimal.
