Elk Grove cracks down on seatbelt use
The Elk Grove Village Police Department will conduct increased traffic enforcement through Nov. 27. Officers will be assigned to several seat belt enforcement zones where a zero-tolerance stance will be taken. These enforcement zones will be located at intersections where a high volume of motor vehicles crashes occur. In an effort to increase safety belt use at night, several nighttime enforcement zones will be conducted. Failure to use safety belts has been shown to be leading causes of injuries. The increased enforcement actions coincide with a statewide enforcement effort made possible by a state grant designed to educate the public about the dangers of the nonuse of safety belts and child restraints. The goal of the program is to reduce the number of severe and fatal traffic crashes. As of Jan. 1, everyone, no matter the age or seating position, will be required to wear a safety belt.
