City offers recycling option for used holiday lights

City Accepting Lights Starting November 21 at the Public Works Service Center

Beginning Monday, November 21, Naperville residents can bring their used holiday lights to the Department of Public Works Recycling Drop-Off Center, located at 180 Fort Hill Drive. Residents may discard lights that no longer work at the drop-off center during its normal hours of operation on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This program is provided free of charge to the City by Elgin Recycling.

Between November 30, 2010 and March 31, 2011, residents dropped off approximately 3,300 pounds of used and unwanted holiday lights at the Recycling Drop-Off Center.

Accepted lights include:

• mini-lights (Italian lights)

• C7

• C9

• rope

• LED

• extension cords

All colors and lengths will be accepted through March 30, 2012.
