Parents sue NW Ind. school over bullying of son
ST. JOHN, Ind. — The parents of a 17-year-old boy claim he was bullied and taunted over his Middle Eastern heritage for more than a year before he was badly beaten in an attack at his suburban high school in northwestern Indiana.
David Osama Haddad’s parents say they decided to file a lawsuit against Lake Central High School because administrators didn’t respond to the previous incidents.
Hind Haddad said at a news conference Monday that her son is being treated for a traumatic brain injury and is having trouble with his vision and balance since the Nov. 8 hallway attack at the school in St. John. The teen’s parents say they’re natives of Jordan who’ve lived in the United States for more than 30 years.
District officials didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
