Arlington Heights arts commission honors Fran Volz

The Arlington Heights Arts Commission announces that local artist Fran Volz has been chosen as this year’s winner of the commission’s Cultural Arts Award 2011. Volz was presented with the award during the Artist Outreach event hosted by the commission on Friday, Nov. 4, at the Arlington Heights Village Hall.

The award was given in recognition for Volz’s substantial and exceptional art works given to Arlington Heights, surrounding communities and the country at large. This includes: The bronze statue of William Dunton at the corner of Arlington Heights Road and Northwest Highway; the Eternal Flame sculpture at Memorial Park; the model of the Lincoln Memorial on display at Terminal 3 at O’Hare Airport; and the creation of the International Chicago Snow Competition at Navy Pier.

“We selected Fran Volz as the winner after looking over the many nominations we received,” said Arts Commission member Bill Kruser, who presented the award. “He clearly has made a substantial contribution to the arts in Arlington Heights.”

The prestigious award was based on a candidate’s close relationship to the village, his or her resume and accomplished work, as well as regional, national and international achievements.
