Herman Cain has hoodwinked Cal
Thanks to your editorial staff for publishing Cal Thomas’ column — I am a loyal reader. Not because I agree with Cal — just the opposite.
It’s because he often makes me laugh out loud with his absurd logic and convoluted conclusions.
Cal’s column Nov. 4 column was the best one yet. He leaped to the defense of Herman Cain and his sexual harassment problems with the assertion that Cain is being attacked by the liberal media just because he is a Republican, or because he is a self-made man, or because — and these are Cal’s own words — “He would threaten the political and economic prison liberal Democrats have built to keep disenfranchised minorities down.”
I laughed out loud. Not just because Cal’s ridiculous argument, but also because his blinders are on so tight that he doesn’t realize what a lot of smart conservatives are starting to figure out.
The reality is — pay attention, Cal — you are being hoodwinked by Herman Cain and his minions. His campaign is not now, nor has it ever been, a serious effort to run for president. It is a huge practical joke that Herman Cain and his friends originally concocted to sell his book. And it has succeeded beyond Cain’s wildest dreams.
Even Cain himself seems amazed that his followers are so gullible. Some of his joking remarks are so transparently obvious that Republicans by now should have realized that he is saying, “Don’t take me seriously, because I’m just playing around.”
My sincere but misled friend Cal Thomas said, “Cain is being excoriated by the liberal left.” When the enormity of Cain’s practical joke finally dawns on the conservatives who wanted to idolize him, I hope Cal turns his considerable excoriation skills on Cain, too. Cain definitely deserves it.
