Happy birthday, U.S. Marines
On behalf of the people of Illinois, and Americans everywhere, we extend our heartfelt thanks and respect to the men and women of the United States Marine Corps on the 236th birthday of the Marines. From your earliest beginnings at Tun Tavern to Iraq and Afghanistan, you have always defended our great nation and her people with courage, valor and professionalism. Your conduct in all of our nation’s conflicts has set an example of tenacity, selflessness and courage, which is the pride of America and the envy of the World.
U.S. Marines have indelibly etched names like Belleau Wood, Iwo Jima, Khe Sanh and Fallujah into the American conscience. The people of Illinois and across this nation sleep peacefully at night knowing the men and women of The Corps stand ready to defend them.
Happy Birthday, Marines. May God watch over each of you and your families.
Semper fidelis.
