Local author writes book about mom’s paintings
Submitted by Barbara Sellers
“My Mother’s Watercolors, Gail Robinson Sellers, 1926-2004” is another book that local Libertyville resident Barbara L. Sellers has written and published about her mother Gail’s watercolor paintings.
“This book is a compilation of 117 of my mother’s watercolors that she painted in various areas around the world. Most were done in California, but also as far away as Italy.”
Gail was very well known in the Newport Beach/Corona del Mar area of California for her artwork and her paintings hung in many art galleries and also at the Newport Beach City Hall.
“In 2002 my mother was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. She never went to doctors, as she believed in mind over matter and was such a positive person. Gail was such a fighter and even though she was given 6 months to live, she lived for another two years. She passed away peacefully at her home with me by her side on Dec. 10, 2004.”
Barbara wrote and published the book in her honor and memory with a part of the proceeds going to the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance, co-founded by Katie Couric in Los Angeles.
At her book signings, Barbara will have brochures on how important screenings are and how everyone should have them done. For more information visit www.gailsellerswatercolors.com.
Barbara’s first book “A Moment in Time,” the biography of Matthew B. Sellers II, aviation pioneer 1869-1932 was published in 2010. Her grandfather Matthew invented the retractable landing gear in 1908 with the patent produced in 1911. He also had Kentucky’s first powered flight in his quadraplane in 1908. Barbara is frequently traveling to Kentucky and other states for book signings and speaker presentations to many aviation groups.
Barbara holds a full-time job with a major corporation in the Chicago area so her books have given her the opportunity to give back to people in need. She visits VA hospitals with her border collie to give her book to our many veterans and recently in June she volunteered for an Honor Flight-Chicago trip to Washington, D.C. She escorted two World War II veterans for the day. She states it was the most memorable and rewarding thing she has ever done for anyone. For more information visit www.matthewbsellers.com.
There will be a book signing featuring Barbara and her new book “My Mother’s Watercolors” from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the Curtis Frame & Gallery at 543 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, just behind the 545 Club. She will also have her first book with her.
