Wis. DOJ takes thousands of concealed carry apps

MADISON, Wis. — Officials with the state Department of Justice say they received more than 30,000 permit applications over the first week of the state’s new concealed carry law.

The measure allows Wisconsin residents who pass background checks and provide proof they’ve taken firearms training to obtain a permit from DOJ to carry a hidden weapon.

Agency officials estimate they’ve received 30,420 applications between Nov. 1, when the law took effect, and Wednesday. They’ve approved 3,689 applications and printed 3,287 permits over that span.

The concealed carry page on the Justice Department’s website received 152,838 hits between Nov. 1 and Wednesday. The online concealed carry permit application page got 587,607 hits during that period.
