Minor charged in Oak Brook McDonald’s robbery

A Bellwood youth is facing charges for his involvement in the Nov. 6 armed robbery of the McDonald’s restaurant at the company’s Oak Brook headquarters.

It was the second time the flagship store was robbed in less than three months.

Oak Brook police arrested the boy Thursday following an investigation that used leads from surrounding police departments, officials said. The boy was charged with aggravated robbery and armed robbery. He was awaiting a bond hearing Friday in DuPage County jail.

Authorities said the boy, who they did not identify because he is a minor, helped rob the store with two other black males who remain at large.

Police said they interviewed a second person, but he was released without charges and is still being investigated. They also identified a third suspect, but have not been able to locate him.

The robbery happened around 10:35 p.m. Sunday when two males walked into the restaurant on the 110 block of West 22nd Street and immediately pulled out handguns, police said.

The suspects ordered all the employees to the ground and demanded money from the registers.

The gunmen took an undisclosed amount of money and fled in a car driven by another male, police said.

The same restaurant was robbed at gunpoint on a Sunday night in August, only that time the suspects held up a cashier working the drive-through and never entered the store.

Two men drove up to the window just after 10 p.m. on Aug. 14 and pointed a long gun at the cashier while demanding money. Police found the Toyota 4-Runner used during the robbery but an arrest has not been made.
