Outlook: The Sequoits graduated more than just a Division-I player in Andi Potkonjak, who averaged a team-best 16 points per game last season. They lost a lot more, including top rebounder Lauren Tiffany and center Jessica Ploss, who’s focusing on volleyball this winter. “We have to replace roughly 60 percent of our scoring,” coach Tim Borries said, “and about 70 percent of our rebounding.” That might not even be the worst news. The Sequoits will start the season without guard Lindsey Gofron, who had surgery on her ruptured Achilles tendon in April. The senior has been a starter since her freshman year. Borries hopes to have her back by next month. Without Gofron, the Sequoits will begin the season with only one returning starter in junior sharpshooter Megan Borries, the coach’s daughter. “We have our work cut out,” Tim Borries said. “We have to come in, work hard and do the best we can.” Seniors Brittany Kelly (the Sequoits’ tallest player at 5-11) and Ashley Mihovilovich got valuable minutes coming off the bench last season. With athletes such as Potkonjak, Tiffany and Gofron, the Sequoits pushed the tempo often last season. They’ll slow it down this season. “We’re stressing defense,” Tim Borries. “You’re talking about a team that had a one-man press break in Andi. It’s going to be a total team effort this year. We won’t rely on Andi to get the big shot or Lauren Tiffany to get the big rebound. Now we’re going to rely on everybody to do that.”
