6 hurt by home explosion in southern Indiana
NEW ALBANY, Ind. — An explosion blew out walls of a house in southern Indiana, injuring five people inside the home and a construction worker.
The explosion knocked walls from one side of the New Albany home into an adjacent alley. City Fire Chief Matt Juliot tells The News and Tribune that two children are among those taken to area hospitals and that none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
Vectren spokeswoman Chase Kelley says workers for a contractor were replacing older natural gas lines near the home before Tuesday’s explosion.
Marco Guerrero tells WAVE-TV that he had smelled a strong natural gas odor and was in his bedroom at the house when the explosion happened. He says those hurt include his sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephew and a cousin.
