Fremd H.S. taking cereal donations this week for pantry

Fremd High School’s Viking Advisory and Mentoring Program has teamed with the school’s Service Over Self club in organizing the second annual cereal drive for the local Palatine food pantry.

It is important to the school community that F.H.S. students understand the value of helping others in times of need. The goal is not only to collect cereal boxes for the community, but to give students a leadership role in bringing the school and community together for a common cause.

Currently, the Palatine food pantry serves 80 families weekly and strives to provide each family with enough food to last an entire week.

Last year, the combined efforts of VAMP and SOS collected enough cereal to help the pantry provide families in the community cereal from November through the end of May (80 cereal boxes per week).

This year, the school hopes to collect enough cereal boxes to provide each family breakfast for an entire year.

Students encourage members of the community to consider making a donation. Donations are being collected through Nov. 10, from 6:30-7:30 a.m., and during all student lunch hours in the cafeteria.

Additional information also is available on the Fremd High School website, fhs.d211.org.
