Plans for W. Ind. bridge repairs expected soonBOWLING GREEN, Ind. — The state Department of Transportation says it should soon know how long a western Indiana highway bridge will be closed for repairs.
The agency closed the Indiana 46 bridge over the Eel River on Nov. 1 after an inspector found a crack in a metal plate during a routine check. The bridge in the Clay County town of Bowling Green is about 25 miles east of Terre Haute.
Agency spokeswoman Debbie Calder tells the Tribune-Star that construction plans should be available this week, after which the time frame for repairs will be set. She says the iron truss bridge is on a list of historic structures and repairs must be coordinated with the state’s historic preservation office.
Traffic is being detoured onto other highways.
