Oak Brook Park District invites kids to design brochure cover

The Oak Brook Park District is inviting students from kindergarten through eighth grade to help with the 2012 Camp and Aquatics Guide cover design. The winner of the contest will have his or her design featured on the front cover of the guide and will win an iPad.

“2012 marks our 50th anniversary, and this is just one of the many ways we will be celebrating the milestone with our community,” said Jessica Alexenko, marketing manager.

The annual Camp and Aquatics Guide is scheduled to be mailed to residents during the last week of February and features the park district’s youth summer camps, summer swim lessons and more.

“Because of Oak Brook’s demographic, this is really the only publication we create that is designed specifically for kids,” Alexenko said.

Contestants are encouraged to electronically submit high resolution scanned artwork (including paintings and drawings) as well as Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop artwork. Submissions must be 6 inches wide by 9 inches tall and will be accepted until 5 p.m. Jan. 23. Any student in kindergarten through eighth grade may enter and attend the awards party, but only Oak Brook residents are eligible to win the contest. All finalists will be called on Feb. 6.

The winner will be chosen by the park district’s 50th anniversary committee. While technique and execution will be considered, the concept of the cover will carry the most weight.

“This is a great opportunity for kids of all ages to learn about the Oak Brook Park District, our role in the community and the importance of being active and having fun,” Alexenko said.

The park district will host an awards party for all contestants Feb. 10 at the Family Aquatic Center, 1450 Forest Gate Road, Oak Brook. From 5 to 7 p.m., participants can enjoy pizza, pop, swimming, artwork displays and the awards presentation. Guests will be invited to stay for the 7 p.m. dive-in movie.
