Barrington’s St. Anne’s Scholastic Bowl champs

On Thursday, Oct. 6, St Anne School won first place at the Scholastic Bowl competition held at Saint Viator High School, in Arlington Heights.

“The entire St. Anne community is so excited and proud of these students,” said school principal Dawn Kapka, “It really showcases their hard work.”

St. Anne’s competed against 13 other local Catholic schools and won all four rounds of play by answering over 100 questions correctly.

“The students spent many hours over the last month brushing up on a variety of historical facts, geographic locations, scientific discoveries, classic literature characters and math formulas,” said Julie Barnec, St. Anne coach, “They worked very hard and we couldn’t be more proud.”

The tournament is a game show format with teams of five students from each school competing. The Saint Viator High School scholastic team runs the event as they both design questions and run the tournament.

This was one of the highest scoring Scholastic Bowls as three top teams scored over 1,000 points. It was the first time St. Anne School won the championship.

“It was a wonderful experience,” said participant Mark Perowski, “I’m so happy to be part of the team that won first place for St. Anne’s.”

Students on St. Anne’s scholastic team are: Mike Carens, Hannah Czarnecki, Kimberly Darch, Gabi Fier, John Jagmin, Mark Perkowski, Matt Trimberger and Liam Werner.

“Scholastic Bowl is an experience I will never forget,” said Kimberly Darch, “It will stay with me for the rest of my life.”
