Wheeling man pleads guilty to DUI

A Wheeling man who told authorities he was under the influence of prescription drugs and alcohol when he struck a parked car last May in Arlington Heights was sentenced to a year in prison.

Garrett Brunson, 30, pleaded guilty to aggravated driving under the influence, including driving on a suspended or revoked license. Brunson could have been sentenced to up to three years in prison for the class 4 felony. Probation is also an option.

During his bond hearing, prosecutors said Brunson admitted taking a combination of prescription drugs and drinking alcohol before he got into his car on the afternoon of May 12 and struck a car on the 1600 block of North Patton Drive.

Brunson received credit for his 177 days in custody. He ws also ordered to pay $1,685 in fines.
