Chicago Express wins in shootout

CINCINNATI — The Chicago Express is proving quite adept at shootouts, much to the dismay of the Cincinnati Cyclones.

For the second straight night, the Express earned a shootout victory over the Cyclones, this one a 3-2 decision Saturday at the U.S. Bank Arena.

The first period was scoreless for over fifteen minutes until Dan Henningson of the Express fired a slapshot from the right point that trickled through goalie Tyler Plante.

The Cyclones evened the score at 3:59 of the second period when winger Mathieu Aubin fired a wrist shot that beat Express goalie Rob Nolan, who finished with 21 saves.

Shortly after a slew of penalties resulting from a brawl in front of the Cincinnati net, Express center Aaron Marvin blocked a shot, raced up the left wing and slipped a shot past Plante for a 2-1 lead.

With 4:32 left in the third period, the Cyclones’ Maury Edwards knotted the game at 2-2 with a blast from the point on a power play.

Neither team scored in overtime. In the shootout, Yannick Tifu of the Express scored the game-deciding goal in the fourth round.
