Fox Valley Concert Band launches season

Submitted by Fox Valley Concert Band

The Fox Valley Concert Band inaugurates its 29th season with “Reflections” on Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Norris Cultural Arts Center, 1040 Dunham Road in St. Charles. The concert, which begins at 3 p.m., is free to the public.

Among the reflective selections in the concert are the driving rhythms of Danza No. 2 by Bruce Yurko and the serene “Down a Country Lane” by Aaron Copland, arranged by Merlin Patterson.

The band is the area's leading community wind ensemble, and has grown to a membership of more than 80 musicians, representing nearly 30 communities throughout northern Illinois. Its wide-ranging repertoire includes band and wind ensemble classics as well as contemporary works.

As a nonprofit volunteer organization, it relies on donor support and fundraising efforts to keep its concerts free to the public. One such event is Good Neighbor Day, which also takes place Sunday, Nov. 6, at Gino's East Pizza, 1590 E. Main St. in St. Charles. From noon to 9 p.m. that day, customers — dine-in, delivery and carryout — bringing in the FVCB Good Neighbor Day flier will have 20 percent of their purchase go to the band. The flier is available to download and print at www.fvcb.org.

The 2011-12 season includes three additional performances at 3 p.m. Sundays at the Norris Center: “Home for the Holidays” on Dec. 4, Winter Concert on March 4, and Spring Concert on May 6.
