E. Dundee fifth-grade runner named All-American
Submitted by Immanuel Lutheran School
Fifth-grader Meghan Lemke from Immanuel Lutheran School in East Dundee has posted impressive times this season.
This is Lemke's first year as a cross country runner. Her serious training has been in ice skating. She only began running competitively this fall, joining her brothers who are also part of Immanuel Lutheran's cross country team.
She is the first runner from the East Dundee school to advance to the National Cross Country Championships for the Lutheran Sports Association.
Lemke attended the national meet with Coach Sue Domeier, members of her family and friends. The meet was held on the campus of Concordia University in Mequon, Wis. on Oct. 22 and hosted runners from six states.
Lemke posted a personal best on the two-mile run and was named an All-American and finished in 20th place for her age group.
“Meghan is a joy to work with,” Domeier said. “She is a gifted runner who maintains a humility that belies her age. Her grit and determination on the course carries over into the classroom, where she works just as hard on academics as athletics. The day after Nationals, Meghan began basketball practice on Immanuel's JV team. She is truly a gift!”
