Goalie Matt Climie sparks Chicago Wolves

PEORIA — Matt Climie not only provided stellar goaltending for the Chicago Wolves on Friday night, he helped trigger the offense for a squad that entered the game ranked 29th of 30 American Hockey League teams in scoring.

Climie’s long pass was the lone assist on Anton Rodin’s power-play breakaway goal at the 4:51 mark of the second period, and the Wolves went on to earn a 2-1 victory over the Peoria Rivermen in an Illinois Lottery Cup contest at Carver Arena.

Climie (2-2-0), who finished with 29 saves, threaded a pass to the far blue line for Rodin and he scored his first AHL goal past Jake Allen. It was the Wolves’ first power-play goal in 22 chances dating back to Oct. 21 against Rockford.

Jordan Schroeder notched the unassisted game-winning goal late in the second, just the second time this season the Wolves have scored twice in the same period.

The Wolves (4-5-0-2), who killed 6 penalties, earned a split of their back-to-back games in Peoria.

The Rivermen (5-5-1-1) received their goal from Derek Nesbitt.
