Bensenville church invites others to join in mission to feed the hungry

Faith Community United Church of Christ in Bensenville has joined in a mission initiated by the national United Church of Christ to feed the hungry and confront food-related injustice nationwide during the first 11 days of November.

As a part of this outreach, Faith Community has joined with other UCC congregations and nondenominational partnering groups to make every effort to meet locally established congregational mission goals.

During these 11 days, Faith Community aims to collect more than 1,111 items of healthy food for the Bensenville/Wood Dale Food Pantry, which has served those in need for several decades. Requests for assistance continue to grow as resources dwindle.

During these 11 days, Faith Community also aims to gather contributions of more than $1,111 for hunger action relief through the food pantry of Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Miss. For 89 years, the mission has assisted impoverished and homeless families of the Gulf Coast region, where countless numbers are still struggling to rebuild their lives after the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina.

The most recently released poverty statistics indicate a rapidly growing segment of our population that is falling into the ranks of the poor and hungry. Faced with the difficulties of having to choose between adequate meals for their families or other daily living necessities, more and more heads of households are lacking the food resources to properly feed their children and themselves.

Local community members are invited to join with Faith Community in efforts to address hunger in our area by donating nonperishable groceries to the Bensenville/Wood Dale Food Pantry. Concerned residents also may extend their assistance with financial donations to the Back Bay Mission Food Pantry.

Items for the Bensenville/Wood Dale Food Pantry may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to noon through Friday, Nov. 11, at Faith Community United Church of Christ, 192 S. Center St., Bensenville, and at Edmar Foods, 22 N. Addison St., Bensenville.

Checks for financial support of the Back Bay Mission Food Pantry may be made out to Faith Community UCC and sent to the church, 192 S. Center St., Bensenville, IL 60106; write “BBM” in the memo line.
