Columnist misses facts on climate change
Since Eugene Robinson didn’t mind calling Republicans neo-Luddites, let me have some fun with his sadly misinformed column. I just happen to be reading James Michener’s best seller “Alaska” and it had some shocking scientific points to make on the subject that should be obvious to anybody that has a fifth-grade education. For billions of years, Earth’s climate has constantly and dramatically been changing before one human being even walked on Earth.
It has gone from hot phases that brought us dinosaurs to at least five Ice Ages that killed 90 percent of all living organisms alive at the time (where was PETA then?).
Even kindergartners know that ice ages came and went and up to two miles of ice once sat over Wisconsin and Illinois and then melted and went away. How can that be? Al Gore and others have told us climate change is all our fault! In fact, to make it even scarier, Michener reminds us that our continents have been crashing into each other changing ocean currents, wind currents, creating and destroying land bridges between Siberia and Alaska, and migrating from the warm equator to the frozen arctic.
Science has proved that before one SUV or coal-fired power plant even existed, climate change has consistently changed earth’s temperature by a range of plus or minus 8 degrees. Time and time again. It is a natural and permanent process.
And Eugene Robinson, Al Gore, and the others want to cripple our economy and destroy the largest middle class in the world by killing low-cost energy and driving millions more manufacturing jobs to China? Can we please grow up folks and get real before we totally blow it?
