Child care association offers education clinics

Submitted by Connections for Family Child Care

Connections for Family Child Care, a local family child care association, is dedicated to promoting professional development, presenting quality early childhood education trainings and providing networking opportunities for family child care providers.

The Jan. 27 training is focused on “Ages and Stages Questionnaires” and will be presented by Daisy Viyuoh, the YWCA nurse consultant from the Kane County Health Department.

ASQ’s are first-level developmental screening tools used to evaluate children from age 4 months to 5 years. The ASQ is a screening tool to help identify children who may require additional help to meet the developmental milestones for their age group.

Assessments of infants and young children should be done on a regular and periodic basis because of the rapid developmental changes in the early years. As providers, they are often the first person to recognize developmental delays in the child. Providers interested in joining the group may attend one free meeting before deciding to join. Membership fees are $35 a year.

Meetings are monthly and held from 7 to 9 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Colonial Restaurant, 600 S. McLean Blvd. in Elgin. The trainings are open to providers who are licensed or licensed exempt and day care centers.

The Feb. 24 training will be on the Orientation for the Quality Rating System and NAFCC Accreditation — presented by Kathy Robson, YWCA CCR&R Provider Services coordinator. You can learn about the statewide quality rating and tiered reimbursement system for providers serving Illinois Department of Human Services Child Care Assistance Program children, including eligibility requirements, application process and support/resources available.

Providers interested in applying to the QRS must attend this session prior to application.
