Top lawmakers, Quinn meet to talk jobs
Top lawmakers and Gov. Pat Quinn are talking about a jobs package to revive the economy.
Quinn met Tuesday in Chicago with the state’s four top legislative officials. The discussion included tax relief for major Chicago financial exchanges threatening to leave Illinois as well as relief for other Illinoisans and businesses.
But lawmakers say there was no discussion of expanding gambling, a measure Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel strongly supports.
At the meeting with Quinn were GOP House leader Tom Cross, Senate Republican leader Christine Radogno, along with Senate President John Cullerton and House Speaker Michael Madigan, both Democrats.
Radogno says she expects no action on gambling before next year. Cross says the discussion also didn’t include dialing back the state’s recent income tax increase.
The leaders plan to meet again Thursday.
