Des Plaines giving out rain barrels by lottery

Des Plaines residents have until Friday, Nov. 4 to enter a city lottery to win free a rain barrel.

To enter, complete an online form available at desplaines.org/rainbarrellottery. Applications also are available between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the city’s public works and engineering department, Room 504, City Hall, 1420 Miner St. Forms must be submitted by 5 p.m. Friday.

Funding for the purchase of 98 terra cotta-colored rain barrels was made possible through a sustainability grant. Only one rain barrel will be granted per household. Residents will be notified the week of Nov. 7 whether they were selected, and can pick up barrels from the Public Works and Engineering Department building at 1111 Joseph J. Schwab (Campground) Road.
