Palatine Legion seeks donations for Thanksgiving dinner

The American Legion in Palatine is seeking donations for their Support a Sailor dinner Thursday, Nov. 24, when 46 sailors from Great Lakes Naval Station will come for a Thanksgiving dinner.

“This year, we have elected to once again open the American Legion during the holidays to those that are actively serving our country,” said Todd Pearson, commander of Post 690 at 122 W. Palatine Road.

“With Great Lakes Naval Station being so close, we are bringing a bus load of sailors to the Legion and providing them with a day of thanks. Since they will not be able to enjoy their holiday with their loved ones, the Legion will be providing dinner, a day of activities and the ability to call home for however long they desire. It is our goal to provide to these young men and women a memory that will stay with them their entire life.”

Checks made payable to the American Legion with a notation of Support a Sailor can be sent to the American Legion, Attention Jeff Van Horn, 122 W. Palatine Road, Palatine, IL 60067. If requested, the Legion will issue a letter for tax deductions.
