New Sox coaches: Parent, Manto and McEwing

With new manager Robin Ventura in place, the White Sox completed the hiring of his major league coaching staff for the 2012 season.

Jeff Manto will serve as the club’s hitting coach, Joe McEwing as third base coach and Mark Parent as bench coach.

The White Sox also exercised the club option for right-handed pitcher Jason Frasor, who will receive a base salary of $3.75 million in 2012.

Manto, 47, has spent the last four seasons as the White Sox minor-league hitting coordinator. He spent five years (2003-07) in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, including the final two as hitting coach at the major-league level.

McEwing, 39, has spent the last four seasons in the White Sox player development system, including 2011 as manager at Class AAA Charlotte, leading the Knights to a 69-74 record. He currently is managing the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League.

Parent, 50, spent the 2011 season as manager at Class AA Reading in the Philadelphia organization, guiding the club to a 74-68 record and a berth in the Eastern League playoffs. He was cited by Baseball America as the Best Manager Prospect in the EL. Parent spent 13 seasons (1986-98) in the major leagues with San Diego, Texas, Baltimore, Cubs, Pittsburgh, Detroit and Philadelphia.

Frasor, a native of Chicago, attended Oak Forest High School and graduated from Southern Illinois University. The 34-year-old pitcher combined to go 3-3 with a 3.60 ERA (24 ER/60.0 IP) and 57 strikeouts in 64 relief appearances with Toronto and the White Sox in 2011. He added 14 holds, one shy of his career best in 2005.

The 5-foot-9, 180-pounder was acquired from the Blue Jays with pitcher Zach Stewart on July 27 in exchange for pitcher Edwin Jackson and infielder/outfielder Mark Teahen. Frasor went 1-2 with a 5.09 ERA (10 ER/17.2 IP) and averaged 10.2 strikeouts per 9.0 IP (20 SO) in 20 games the White Sox.
