Bail set for driver charged in fatal crash
Bail was set Monday at $750,000 for the motorist police say was involved in a high-speed crash on the Jane Addams Tollway Thursday that killed a South Elgin man.
Ulises Beltran, 24, of Carpentersville, has been charged with reckless homicide and two counts of aggravated DUI with a death, according to State Police District 15.
Beltran was driving a 2006 Toyota east on I-90 between Huntley and Elgin shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday when the car crashed, police said. His front-seat passenger, Victor A. Ortega, 24, of South Elgin, died from his injuries.
Beltran along with the two other passengers, Raul Felix, 23, and Timothy Salinas, 24, both of Carpentersville, were taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin and have all been released, according to police.
Alcohol was involved in the crash, according to District 15 investigators, but a blood alcohol content level was not available.
Beltran needs $75,000 to get out of jail while his case is pending — he was unable to post bond and remained in custody at the Kane County jail.
