Algonquin crash sends six to hospitals

Slick conditions are blamed for a three-car accident in Algonquin Sunday afternoon that sent six people to area hospitals with minor injuries, authorities said.

Jeff Sutrick, a traffic supervisor for the Algonquin Police Department, said the accident was reported at 4:21 p.m. along the winding stretch of Algonquin Road just west of Route 31.

A Volkswagen Jetta eastbound on Algonquin Road driven by Fabiola Berrera, 31, of Carpentersville, skidded into oncoming traffic, hitting a Hyundai Santa Fe, Sutrick said. The SUV then hit a Toyota Prius, also heading west. Sutrick said Barrera was given citations for driving too fast for conditions and operating a vehicle without valid insurance.

The driver of the Jetta was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin. The five others were taken to Advocate Good Shepard Hospital in Barrington with minor injuries.
