Kane prosecutor scores repeat kudos
A Kane County prosecutor recently notched a repeat for awards given by law enforcement in the war on drugs.
Assistant State’s Attorney Kelly M. Orland recently was honored by the Illinois Metropolitan Enforcement Group Directors and Task Force Commanders Association Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Enforcement for her work with law enforcement officials in a nine-month narcotics investigation that resulted in nine arrests and the seizure of more than $400,000 in cash, three kilos of cocaine, three vehicles and a house.
The North Central Narcotics Task Force, which consists of law enforcement agencies from Kane, McHenry and DeKalb counties, also was honored for its work, which included multiple undercover cocaine purchases.
The award marked back-to-back years that Orland, a lifelong Kane County resident and St. Charles High School graduate, has been recognized by Illinois Metropolitan Enforcement Group.
Last year she was honored for work she did in 2009 and 2010, when she worked with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the North Central Narcotics Task Force to charge 10 people, seize more than one ton of marijuana and nearly $500,000.
State’s Attorney Joe McMahon had praise for Orland and his staff.
“Kelly’s selfless dedication to her community and her profession is an invaluable asset to every resident of Kane County,” he said. “Although this award was presented to Kelly for work she did, a tremendous amount of teamwork is involved.
Last March, Orland was named the Kane County Prosecutor of the Year for 2010.
