Wis. woman arrested, accused of neglecting 51 pets

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — A Sheboygan woman has been arrested on tentative charges of animal abuse after her home was condemned and more than 50 pets seized.

A Sheboygan Press report says the 56-year-old was arrested Wednesday. Authorities had condemned her house last week after receiving a citizen complaint.

Police seized 40 cats, along with six dogs, four parrots and a finch.

City housing inspector Dean Hesselink says he condemned the home due to lack of sanitation. The residents are allowed to clean it during the day but they can’t stay overnight.

Hesselink says the owners were probably hoarders who never threw anything away.

The animals were taken to the Sheboygan County Humane Society and other locations.
