Remains of sexual assault defendant identified
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. — The remains of a man charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting two women in Wood County have been identified six years after he disappeared.
The remains of a man thought to be David Hopp were found in Washington County in August 2009. Hopp was charged with luring a former girlfriend to his house in Saratoga, tying her up in the basement and assaulting her in 2003. Prosecutors say Hopp also handcuffed and assaulted a woman in 2005 after offering her a ride home. Hopp went missing after he was charged in 2005.
The Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune says authorities sent the remains to the University of Texas for identification. Wood County sheriff’s officials released the positive identification on Thursday.
