Des Plaines residents appointed to state boards

A few notable Des Plaines names popped up among Gov. Pat Quinn’s appointments this week to the more than 320 boards and commissions in the state.

Former Des Plaines alderwoman Patricia Beauvais, a former horse breeder who has served on the Illinois Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Foundation, was appointed to the Illinois Racing Board, which oversees horse racing statewide. Beauvais holds an Illinois Horse Racing License. She served as Des Plaines alderman from 1993 to 2007.

Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan’s ex-wife, Susan Moylan Krey, who presently serves on the Des Plaines Library board and has been a Maine Township trustee since 2007, was appointed to the Civil Service Commission. Krey, a real estate broker for 22 years, is a member of the Illinois Library Association.

Des Plaines resident Jin Lee, director of business planning for the Albany Park Community Center, was appointed to the board of Northeastern Illinois University. Lee also is a member of the Illinois Secretary of State’s Asian Advisory Council and the city of Chicago’s Human Relations Council.

Twenty-three of the state’s more than 320 boards and commissions are compensated — six have full-time, paid positions while the remaining 14 offer part-time pay or daily stipends. The remaining more than 290 boards are unpaid and volunteer boards.
