Sherman Health names Physician Award winners

Sherman Health is pleased to announce the physician award winners from its Fourth Annual Physicians Awards and Networking event on Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Chicago Marriot Northwest in Hoffman Estates. Awards were given to physicians for outstanding achievements based on defined criteria in the categories of Quality, Service, People, Growth, Community and Leadership.

"All of us at Sherman Health congratulate these members of our medical staff for their amazing work and thank them for joining us in our mission to make a positive difference through outstanding healthcare and service, every life, every moment, every day," said Dr. Ian Jones, vice president of clinical performance at Sherman Health.

During the event, master of ceremonies Dr. Michael Seigle, ophthalmologist, welcomed the physicians, hospital leaders, and guests gathered to honor the following physician award winners:

Quality Pillar Award: This award is given to those physicians impacting highest core measures compliance. These are physicians delivering best-practice care and following recommended guidelines in specific situations like Heart Failure, Heart Attack, Pneumonia and Surgical Procedures.

Dr. Preston Reilly, General Surgeon, for his work with the Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP).

Dr. Ashby Jordan, Pulmonary Disease Physician, for his work with Pneumonia patients.

Dr. Raminder Singh, Cardiologist, for his work with AMI (Heart Attack) patients.

Dr. Azmey Matarieh, Cardiologist, for his work with Heart Failure patients.

Dr. Mohamed Ghumra, Neurologist, for his work with Stroke patients.

Service Pillar Award: This award is given to those physicians with outstanding patient satisfaction. Winners rank among the top 10% in the nation.

Dr. Stephen Gladdin, OB/GYN

Dr. Muhammad Khan, Family Practice Physician

Community Pillar Award: This award is given to a physician who has made an outstanding humanitarian contribution in his or her field, as selected by peers on the medical staff.

Dr. Muhammad Riaz, Cardiologist

Growth Pillar Award: This award is given to those physicians who have developed a new patient-centered service or improved an existing service at Sherman.

Dr. John Brems, Liver and Pancreatic Surgeon, for his work with the new Center for Advanced Liver and Pancreatic Care at Sherman Health.

Dr. Matthew Stilson, Medical Director of the Emergency Department and Immediate Care Centers, for his work to enhance the Sherman Hospital Emergency Department.

Leadership Award: This award is given to a physician who has made a positive difference in quality outcomes, patient safety or service development as evidenced by hours of service, outcomes achieved, a change in process achieved, and/or a new policy or practice implemented.

Dr. Lawrence Kosinksi, Gastroenterologist, for his work as Chair of Sherman's Physician Information Technology Steering Committee.

People Pillar Award: This award is given to a physician based on the annual Nursing Satisfaction with Physicians survey. This is a physician who is highly rated by Sherman's nursing staff.

Dr. Rajesh Pillai, Gastroenterologist

In addition to the six awards, certificates were given to the following physicians: Obstetrics Certificates to Dr. Raja Chatterji, OB/GYN and Dr. Stephen Gladdin, OB/GYN, Medicine Certificates to Dr. Azhar Awan, Radiation Oncologist and Dr. Vijaija Thothathri, Internal Medicine Physician, Surgery Certificate to Dr. Chirag Dholakia, General Surgeon and Pediatrics Certificate to Dr. Rupal Upadhyay, Pediatrician.
