Drug take back event:
Expired medications can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at the National Prescription Take-Back event at the Beach Park village hall, 11270 W. Wadsworth Road. Lake County health and law enforcement officials are participating in the third event in which expired medications are collected and incinerated. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse, authorities say. Studies show teens who abuse prescription drugs often obtain them from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing it down the toilet or throwing it away — both potential safety and health hazards. The following items are accepted: expired solid prescription drugs; unwanted or unused prescription drugs; over the counter pills; controlled and noncontrolled substances; vitamins and supplements in pill form. Liquid products, syringes, intravenous solution or injectable drugs will not be accepted. Contact the Drug Free Communities Program (847) 731-2658.
