Glen Crest Spartan cross country score in conference meet

After the DuPage Metro Valley Cross Country Conference was postponed a day because of weather, the runners at Glen Crest Middle School in Glen Ellyn were anxious to get going.

On Friday, Oct. 21, the conference meet got under way and Glen Crest competed with eight other middle schools winning in several divisions.

The sixth- and seventh-grade boys team, who were undefeated all season, won first place in their division.

Team members are Andrew Fritz (sixth grade), Austin Rexroad (seventh), Adam Lange (seventh), Nick Atkinson (sixth) Brian Makasiar (seventh), Samuel Makasiar (sixth), and Allen Chung (seventh).

Diane Lipa won the eighth-grade girls conference race and Jon O'Rourke won the eighth-grade boys conference race.

In the boys open race, seventh-grader Joey Wood came in first.

The sixth- and seventh-grade girls team posted a third-place spot. Team members are Shelby Fritz, Abby Schlenker, Ava Childs, Kelsey Breen, Kylee LaFalce, Madison Nathe, and Lilly Taylor.

Winning third place in the meet are the eighth-grade boys: Jon O'Rourke, Kevin Berenschot, Tomas Eismann, Tim Marks, Kyle Riebock, and Roy Dodge.

Other Spartan runners who won ribbons at the conference meet were Ethan Sowl (seventh grade), Adam Puchalski (seventh), Christian Hilliard (seventh), Orlando Gamboa (seventh), and Andy Fearn (seventh).  

The eighth-grade girls received sixth place.

Head coach for the cross country teams was Katie McGrath, assisted by Amy Dime and Maggie Moran. All three coaches were proud of their athletes and McGrath said, “The entire experience this fall was amazing. Go Spartans!”
